    Asus Rog Zephyrus S GX701 | Product review [2019]

For those who would like an instant  Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX701 review, you can et the game gods that Asus succeeded here, through a sharp double-down on last year’s system, to produce a system that delivers a best-in-class laptop gaming experience for its user.

I can honestly say that the portable gaming power offered in the GX701 is unlike anything else and means that as a player you can approach even the most demanding AAA PC game with ironed confidence that your system not only runs it but runs it to its absolute best in terms of settings.

Unlike many of the gaming laptops I’ve seen over the years, the GX701 has a powerful internal structure, but a plastic case with a sponge-like keyboard feels almost as solid. The square magnesium alloy casing also feels cool. Like last year’s GX501, the system’s cover is printed with anything other than the chrome-plated ROG logo.

Open Zephyrus S and you’ll notice several other return functions of the GX501. The first one is very pleasing – ASUS’s innovative active aerodynamic system, when the screen is open, can see the Zephyrus base automatically open the hinge. This creates a small vent at the rear of the base that helps significantly dissipate heat.

Another return function is the button RGB illumination, with the N-key flip keyboard of Aura Sync, which is not satisfactory. Although the motherboard is fully functional and easy to maintain, it is still quite narrow like the buttons installed on the GX501, and its compact layout is pushed to the front of the system. This positioning depends on the design of the system, with a large perforated venting plate above it that helps cool the GX701’s powerful internal hardware.

You can definitely play and type on this keyboard, when you get used to the absolute best game key experience, (I will look at boards such as Roccat Vulcan 120 Aimo), there is no comparison at all.

The most notable new design feature of the GX701 is a recessed vertical moving wheel that controls the volume of the system. This wheel is located above the F1 key of the keyboard, although it works as you would expect.

This is an impressive port choice and I think it is enough for most gamers. While I noticed a noteworthy omission that lacks an Ethernet LAN port, it can be uncomfortable for many hardcore or professional gamers. However, if you are satisfied with the wireless Wi-Fi connection, then this is fine.

Technically, the Zephyrus S GX701 is an absolute portable computer game monster. The unit packed an Intel 2.2GHz i7-8750H hex-core processor capable of flying up to 4.1GHz when called, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q 8GB GDDR6 GPU (with Intel UHD Graphics 630 when this large no power required), 24GB of 2,666MHz DDR4 RAM, 1GB of M.2 PCIe x4 SSD, and a 17.3-inch Full HD (1.920×1,080) display.

The GX701’s display is also Pantone-validated with a 144Hz refresh rate and Nvidia G-Sync capability. At the same time, the system also has an external Full HD camera (1080p, 60fps) that can be trimmed to the top of the system while the machine is in use, while the connections are handled by 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth integrated chips. 5.0.

The star of the display is undoubtedly Nvidia’s brand new GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q video card, which I think is simply a technical miracle. The Max-Q edition of the RTX 2080 is not quite as fast as a regular card, but it is just so thin that personally, the deal is totally worth it as the GX701, despite all this hardware and a 17-inch display, is actually considerably portable.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not really a system you play so-called on the go. I don’t see many players whipping it on their commute to work, for example, because having the system work optimally close, plugging it in is something that prevents it.

Taken between multiple desktops, its slim, flat dimensions (39.9 x 27.2 x 1.87 cm) mean it fits easily into a backpack or laptop case. And considering that for many buyers, this system will be a desktop replacement, not a secondary system, this makes perfect sense to me.

If you want the absolute best gaming laptop available right now then the GX701 is the system for you. It gives the game’s amazing performance with a sleek engine, premium package with the exception of a few things like its compact keyboard, lack of network port.

Well, that aside from the low price tag. If you want the absolute best technology out of the gate then you have to pay for it, it’s pretty simple. So if you can upgrade to the GX701 and are currently looking to upgrade your portable PC gaming setup, the Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX701 is very, very easy to recommend.

And, well, if you can’t get to the GX701 then there’s always the GX501, the old king of gaming laptops that has just been upgraded, as well as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, for under half the price of the GX701 you can choose a system that, even without boasting the insane power of the new model, is yet another pair for any PC game that you can drop off and give the same premium build and modern design.
